Our Story
Having joined Marks Sattin in 2000, small but promising privately owned accountancy and finance recruiter, Dave and Tim began the company's graduate hiring initiative and set the precedent for its growth. Promotions quickly followed.
Firstly, Dave was made manager of Commercial and Professional Services, and Tim became the head of the fledgling Financial Services Division.
Growing to a team of 150 consultants, Dave and Tim moved into the Senior Leadership Team of Marks Sattin. During this period, their pivotal roles played a part in the company's transition to supporting the Private Equity-backed FiveTen Group. Dave was promoted to Managing Director, and Tim was appointed Director for London. Both continued to sit on the Group Management Board.
Dave and Tim, both keen to maintain their growth trajectory in spite of the prevailing macro-economic conditions, oversaw a strategic regional expansion, opening Marks Sattin offices in Manchester, Dublin, Reading, Birmingham, and Leeds.
Under Dave's leadership, Marks Sattin continued to outperform the market with year-on-year growth. In search of a new challenge, Tim joined Poolia's struggling UK operation as Managing Director in 2012. By 2013, he led the sale of Poolia UK to the high-growth buy-and-build vehicle, staffing 360 Solutions, and in 2014 was promoted to CEO of the UK subsidiary, Longbridge.
The stars finally align, and, after many years of discussion and napkin-based business plans, Dave and Tim launch HedgerWay. The plan is simple: rewrite the rules to build a candidate, client and employee centric firm: write rules to support a long-term, sustainable growth model based on the future rather than the past; build growth free from the influence and demands of external investors, to last, not to sell; throw away the rules on sales commissions to create an environment where recruitment professionals are rewarded for building their business and maintain a stake in the wider success of HedgerWay through a new innovative profit share scheme.
Nick Connor specialising in senior finance appointments within the Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure sectors was among the first to join. Oli Lampkin focused on the Media, Publishing, and Leisure sectors. While Jonny Way covered Facilities Management, Property, and Construction.
In June 2017, HedgerWay launched its HR consultancy, providing CFOs of start-up businesses with ad-hoc support. Georgina Wilson, a qualified HR professional with over 15 years of industry experience, joined to lead this initiative.
By March 2019, HedgerWay celebrated its second anniversary, having successfully placed senior finance roles with 102 clients, more than half of whom were repeat clients. This milestone highlighted the business’s commitment to building lasting relationships and delivering exceptional service.
In May 2019, Richard Nourse and Christina Roche joined as Associate Directors. Richard focussing on interim and contract senior finance roles, while Christina concentrating on the Financial Services and Alternative Investment markets.
In August 2019, Warren Gibson joined as a Senior Consultant, significantly expanding the Leeds office. Bringing five years of recruitment experience, Warren specialises in working with privately-owned, owner-managed, and private equity-backed businesses across Yorkshire and the North of England.
Hedgerway’s sister brand TurleyWay, led by James Turley, was established in mid-2019, further expanding the group's offerings to IT Leadership and Transformation.
Richard Hope joined HedgerWay in January 2020, bringing 15 years of accounting and finance recruitment experience. With the aim to support senior finance professionals within high-growth and private equity-backed businesses.
HedgerWay experienced further growth towards the end of 2020 with the addition of Louis Purves as Associate Director. Bringing 12 years of recruitment experience, Louis significantly enhanced the team's capabilities. He specialises in partnering with clients across the Real Estate, Property Development, and Construction markets, working with Senior Leadership teams from listed entities to privately owned businesses.
In July 2023, HedgerWay entered an exciting new chapter with the move into our new office on Tabernacle Street. Our team also expanded significantly. Tom O'Reilly joined us bringing his expertise in recruiting top talent for the Senior Finance market across the Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure sectors. Additionally, we welcomed Fabienne Dormeuil, who took on the role of Marketing and Operations Manager to enhance our marketing initiatives and streamline our operational processes, further maintaining Dave and Tim’s commitment to continued long-term development of the business.
Lawrence Hurst joined us in June, to focus on senior placements within the financial services and alternative markets. His expertise and dedication align perfectly with our mission to provide exceptional service and build lasting relationships.
Looking ahead, we see promising opportunities for further growth and success. With our talented team and steady commitment to excellence, HedgerWay is poised to continue making significant strides in the industry.
